GUIDE: Troubleshooting and Diagnostics with Chowmain URC Drivers

Overview

These instructions walk through how to use the URC logging tool built into Accelerator 3. The instructions are written for using a project created in Accelerator 3 using tcm3 modules.

Module Configuration

Before you connect and look for logs there is one step that needs to be completed first. You need to add a new module parameter to the module you need to fetch logs for.

In the module parameters you need to add

DEBUG=ON

How to generate value data in the logs

Before we launch the logger we need to make sure there is going to be something valuable in the logs. The start of this process is to add the DEBUG command to your system parameters as detailed in the previous section.

The next step is to restart your project. The most important information is written to the logs as the processor starts up, so restarting is a critical step.

Once the project has restarted, perform the actions with the driver that lead to the issue you are having and try to avoid using other modules or parts of the system at this point.

Once you have got to the point where the issues arise, go immediately to the logging steps detailed below. The less extraneous data in the logs the easier it will be to identify the issue.

Launching

To launch the logging software you will need to open the Tools menu in Accelerator, then select URC Tech Utilities.

From there you can run the logger by selcting TCM Logging Tool and hitting Run. If you haven't installed it you will need to hit Install first.

On older version of Accelerator you will find the Logging button on the Tools menu.

Logging In

You will then be prompted to log in. To log in you need to use your URC Portal username and password.

Connecting to your processor

TO connect to your processor you will first need to discover it. The following process describes how to discover and connect to your processor.
  1. Hit the discovery button
  2. Select your processor from the drop down presented in the discovery section
  3. Click Assign
  4. Hit the Get Info button to fetch details from your processor

Finding the appropriate logs

Once you have retrieved the info for your processor you will be presented with a list of discovered modules in the Module Information section. Depending on the model and number of modules you have it may take a few minutes for this list to populate. If you don't see the module in the list just give the system a little longer and hit Get Info again.

Once the driver is in the list you can select it and proceed to the next step.

Set the Log Level

The default log level for all drivers is production. While this level is set, no logs are generated and there is no way to fetch them. To get the logs we need to set a new log level, unless told otherwise choose Debug.

Set Levels

Now you have a new log level set, you need to tell the processor to act on it by pressing the Set Levels button in the bottom right. This will enable the logs to be fetched.

Fetching the Logs

To fetch the logs you can use the download log button in the File Logging section. This will allow you to save a text file with the log information to your PC. Once you have the log file please send it back to us for review.
