HOW TO: DriverCentral license migration
Overview
Chowmain has created an Automated License Migration Tool to streamline the transfer of licenses for Chowmainsoft drivers from the DriverCentral Marketplace to the Chowmain Marketplace. This tool ensures a smooth transition with minimal project disruption, reducing manual effort and saving valuable time.
PLEASE NOTE: This tool is only for drivers developed by Chowmainsoft that are in use. If you have drivers that have not yet been used on a system please follow the instructions here
Do I need to Migrate?
Licenses purchased through DriverCentral will remain fully functional indefinitely. Transitioning to the Chowmainsoft Marketplace version is optional and only required if you wish to access an updated driver version with new features or bug fixes. If you decide to migrate—or if you’ve accidentally updated to the Chowmainsoft Marketplace version of a driver—please follow the step-by-step instructions in this document.

Important Notes
- License Eligibility: Only licenses for Chowmain drivers that have been purchased are eligible for migration. Showroom licenses are excluded. Additionally, some drivers have been discontinued and are no longer under development or supported.
- No Project Impact: The migration does not impact existing programming but does require you to update to the Chowmainsoft Marketplace version of the driver before proceeding with the migration procedure
- Support: If you encounter any issues, our support team is available to assist you.
Getting Ready
Please make a backup of your project file before proceeding.
We need to get your current system ready before we can migrate licenses. You will need to download and install the new Chowmainsoft version of the drivers and also the new Chowmainsoft project agent.
To get started you will need to first create an account on our system. Please note, it can take a couple of days for us to verify your account, so please get on to this step as soon as possible.
The DriverCental licenses are tied to a MAC address, so it is imperative to install the project agent and drivers on the same processor/controller requiring license migration. If the MAC address doesn’t match we won't be able to perform the transfer
Migration Procedure
- Install the project agent to processor/controller. You can find the list of Project Agents here https://chowmain.software/user/project/agent. Alternatively there is a link on the Projects page.
- Make sure all the drivers you want to transfer are installed / updated to the latest version hosted on the Chowmainsoft website
- Create a project in the My Project section of our website
- Add the Project ID to the project Agent
- Wait for all drivers to be visible in the project view on the website.
- Once everything is shown in the projects page we will be able to perform the transfer.
- If the Drivers Total listed on the summary page is more than the Drivers Licensed then the migrate button will appear.
- Press the Migrate button
- A window will pop up advising you how many Unlicenced Drivers there are and to follow the instructions in this knowledgebase article. Press Send Migration Request
- In a few minutes you will receive a migration report via email notifying you on the results of the migration.
- For migrated licences please allow for up to 15 minutes for licences to be active on the project.

Chowmain license successfully created and assigned to the driver pool | A license was found matching the mac address of the controller assigned to the project. The license was successfully migrated and however could not be attached to the project. As such it has been sent to your driver pool. |
Previously transferred, Transfer ID | This license was previously migrated using the automated license migration tool in a previous migration attempt. |
Previously transferred using coupon code | This license was previously migrated manually. |
| Previously transferred | This license was previously migrated. |
Not on Chowmainsoft Marketplace | This driver does not exist on Chowmainsoft marketplace as it has been discontinued. |
| No license found. | The system could not find a match for this driver. |
Transferring over unused Licenses
If you have purchased licenses but have not used them yet, we can transfer them to our system, we just need proof of purchase which can be found via method outlined in the link below
Once we have the invoice number we can cross reference with the licensing data provided to us by DriverCentral and provide you with the license.
