Control4 Govee: Upgrade Govee V1 / V2 to Govee V3
Govee V3 Advantages
Some devices require Govee V3 to be controlled via Control4. Govee V3 offers many advantages over V1/V2 including:
- Govee V1/V2 utilises the old Govee Cloud API. This has more quota limitations than the "Awesome New API" (sic) implemented in V3.
- Govee V3 uses a fully managed connection/binding system for both cloud and lan which improves management and easy setup
- Some devices are not shown in the older V1/V2 driver (most commonly, the H600D GU10 lights). This is a limitation of the Govee Server. They are however available in Govee V3
- Govee V3 is a free upgrade for existing users
- Govee V3 requires OS 3.4 or later. The older lighting V1 driver is no longer available
- Both use different drivers. Govee V3 compatible drivers have govee_v3 in the name
- No major future upgrades will be provided for the older Govee drivers
Upgrade Process
Due to the significant protocol changes, the Govee drivers required a full rewrite and the upgrade process is manual.
- Remove all existing V1/V2 drivers and older V1 agent from the project
- Install the Govee V3 Agent (please note, you must be in the Agents tab in composer. Search will not add Agents)

- If the driver wasn't purchased on Chowmain Marketplace and the driver is now showing as Trial, or Trial expired , you may need to migrate your licence
- Set The API Key. If the API Key is unknown, use our Obtaining an API Key Guide
- Enable LAN Control on all lights which are supported
- Use the Auto Setup actions to re-setup devices in Agent
