CONTROL4 ELK M1: Unable To Connect To Panel via Network
For general troubleshooting, it is recommended to do the following first:
- Ensure
the driver is running the latest version of the Chowmain ELK V2 Driver.
If the V1 driver is being used, it is recommended to remove and replace
the driver with the V2 version. Right Click the driver in Composer and
ensure the Device File is chowmain_elk_m1_v2.c4z
- If
the driver doesn't have a "cloud status" property, it is likely the
original M1 driver from the Control4 database which was not developed by
Chowmain and is no longer supported by Snap.
- Ensure that the driver has an active trial or is licenced. The driver will not work if it is showing an expired trial
- It
is recommended that the panel is running 5.3.30 or later firmware.
Versions older than 5.3.10 in particular are likely to experience issues
- Use the Display Diagnostics action (the output is shown in the lua tab) to check for any obvious errors
Otherwise:
- Ensure ethernet is connected through the ethernet port (C1M1 or M1XEP is generally required).
- Ensure panel is powered up and can be connected to via ELKRP via Insecure mode on the same network segment as the Control4 Controller
- Ensure that ELKRP or other configuration software is disconnected from the Panel. ELKRP blocks Control4 from Connecting
- This driver is unable to connect to via secure port (Secure port is 2601 by default). Ensure insecure port (2101 by default) is enabled using ELKRP (by default it is disabled) and port is set in our driver
- For a M1XEP, this is normally set in ELKRP > M1XEP Setup > TCP Settings > Enable Non Secure Port. Control4 Discovery is NOT required for this driver, and it is normally recommended to use a static IP instead

- Ensure static IP is used. DHCP may cause issues if the IP address changes.
- Power Cycle the M1XEP and panel. Firmware M1XEP firmware 1.X in particular is known to experience dropouts, and it is strongly recommended to update to 2.0.42 or later firmware
- Ensure that the panel is running Firmware 5.3.30 or later.
- Ensure that Control4 has network access to the panel.
- Ensure Panel is an M1 or M1 Gold.
- This driver WILL not work on E27 or other panels. You can find our E27 driver here.
