Control4 TPLink: Failed to connect. Authentication Failed

Control4 TPLink: Failed to connect. Authentication Failed

Symptom

When attempting to attempt to connect to a KLAP based Tapo or KASA device, Connection Status shows "Failed to connect. Authentication failed"

Solution

  1. Ensure you are using Version 20251218 or later.
  2. Check and ensure you are using the latest firmware for the device
  3. Ensure that you have entered the TPlink credentials into TPLink Agent (if you are using it), or into the KLAP device driver directly. The username is your TPLink account email address
  4. Check that the TPLink credentials are correct using the TPLink Accounts page
  5. Enable 3rd Party Compatibility is enabled. More Information is available from TP-Link
  6. We have discovered that the specific capitalisation of the email address may affect authentication on the devices. In the Tapo or KASA app, under the account link, check the specific capitalisation of the email address used.
