Control4 TPLink: Setup Tapo Cameras

Control4 TPLink: Setup Tapo Cameras

Minimum Requirements to operate this driver?

  1. Control4 OS 3.4.3 or later to operate correctly. Control4 X4 is supported
  2. Tapo cameras
  3. You will need the TPLink mobile login credentials (Username/Password) and configuration
  4. VLAN's and connections between different network segments may require additional configuration which are outside the scope of support. It is recommended against using VLAN's. VLAN's may interfere with RTSP streaming

Limitations

  1. There is no support for snapshots or events
  2. We have identified issues with video streaming simultaneously to multiple devices when using "High Quality".
  3. There is limited Fine Grained Control over PTZ Movement. Many users may prefer to use Presets instead.
  4. Live Audio is not supported. This is a technical limitation.

Configuration of Tapo Cameras

  1. Add the Tapo camera to the Tapo mobile app and ensure they are working correctly. Camera IP changes are not detected automatically. It is therefore required to use a static IP or static DHCP reservation for the camera.
  2. Camera account must be created for each camera. Select the camera in the Tapo app, go to settings, advanced settings, camera account. Turn on "Camera Account". Go to Account Information and create a username and password. This will be used to access the camera from the driver

Adding the Camera Driver

AlertEnsure you have completed Configuration of Tapo Cameras before adding the driver to the project.

  1. Add "Tapo Camera PTZ (Chowmain)" driver for each camera to the project
  2. In Camera properties, set the IP of the camera under "Hostname / IP Address", and set the Authentication Username / Password created in the Tapo App (this is different to the mobile app authentication).
  3. Set the RTSP Stream selection, and test stream
  4. Set Whether to show PTZ Controls in the UI
