Control4 UniFi - UNVR NVR Stacking Support

Control4 UniFi - UNVR NVR Stacking Support

At this time, UNVR Stacking is not supported by the Chowmain driver, and is strongly discouraged by Ubiquiti

Initial investigations have determined that there is limited support for stacked NVR's within the official API which affects control, and even detection of cameras.

Ubiquiti advises that there are many limitations for child consoles including (but not limited to):
  1. Stacking only supports two (2) UNVR Pros, or two (2) UNVRs.
  2. Moving a camera between the child and the parent will erase all prior recordings.
  3. Face recognition and LPR are not supported on cameras on the child console.
  4. Vantage Point is not supported with stacked consoles.
  5. AI Key and AI Port and only supported with cameras on the parent console.
  6. Pairing cameras with sensors and access hubs is only supported on the parent console
  7. It’s not possible to access the child NVR directly. If something happens with the parent console, the user is locked out of the child console.
  8. Other UniFi devices such as Viewports may be also unable to show videos from the child console

Solutions

As an alternative, it is recommended that large systems upgrade to an Enterprise Network Video Recorder instead which should provide full capabilities across all devices, or to split the system into multiple separate protect installations.  More info is available at: https://help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/14881658961303-UNVR-Stacking
