Control4 ratGDO: Doors Opening or Closing unexpectedly (Without sending command)

Problem

  1. Door communication errors
  2. Blinking wall control panels (indicating a power loss)
  3. Security + 1 doors opening or closing without being commanded

Solution

A major ratgdo firmware update has been released early 2026 to address a critical issue introduced by recent changes in ESPHome. Earlier this year, ESPHome modified the timing of the serial communication method used by ratgdo devices, which resulted in the transmission of invalid (garbage) data.

Impact
Security + 2 Door Systems: Most systems will ignore the invalid data and continue to operate normally.
Security + 1 Door Systems: These systems may interpret the invalid data as a dry contact door toggle, potentially causing doors to open or close unexpectedly.
